Transesophageal Echocardiogram (TEE)
This test is done from inside the esophagus, just behind your heart. After your throat is numbed and a low-dose sedative is administered, a long, flexible tube is inserted into the mouth and down the esophagus. We are home to more board-certified anesthesiologists trained in TEE than any other hospital in Pennsylvania.
This test provides clearer pictures and allows your doctor to examine sections of your heart that are difficult to see with other test. It detects heart abnormalities and determines if arteries are blocked or narrowed. TEE is used after heart bypass or valve replacement surgery to determine the success of the procedure.
